JSON、YAML 与 XML:选型速查

三种格式的表达力、人类可读性与机器处理成本对照,按场景给结论。

发布于·约 2 分钟阅读

Every new project re-runs this debate. The formats solve different decades of problems, and the right pick depends on who writes the file, who reads it and which tools consume it.

JSON: the interchange workhorse

Strict, fast to parse, and the native language of APIs and JavaScript. Downsides: no comments, quoting everywhere, and hand-editing large files invites comma errors. Format and validate any document with the JSON Formatter before committing it.

YAML: human-first configuration

Reads like an outline, supports comments and multi-line strings — the reason Kubernetes, GitHub Actions and docker-compose all chose it. The trade-off is surprise typing (the Norway problem: no becomes a boolean) and indentation sensitivity; stray tabs are the classic failure. Convert between the two worlds with the YAML to JSON converter.

XML: the contract veteran

Verbose but unmatched in enterprise territory: namespaces, schema validation, attributes and document order. SOAP, SAML, Office files and Android layouts keep it alive. The XML Formatter keeps namespace-heavy documents readable.

Choosing in practice

  • Machine-to-machine data → JSON.
  • Human-edited config, comments required → YAML.
  • Enterprise contract, strict schemas, document structure → XML.

The safe workflow

Keep YAML or XML sources, validate on save, and generate JSON for the machine layer. Whatever the format, a formatter with precise error positions — for JSON, for XML or a YAML parser — shortens the debug loop from minutes to seconds.
